Repainting

We've lived in our house a little over 6 years. When we moved in all the rooms were painted with a flat green or beige paint which is terrible when you have a toddler like we did at the time. Slowly over the years each room has been repainted to a prettier and more kid-friendly finish with the exception being the master bedroom. Finally though we are getting a bedroom redo. I got a new bedspread set for my birthday and then the next day I picked out some samples to go with it and painted a few swatches on the walls to live with for a while to see how I feel about them. Pretty good as it turns out. The bedroom is going to be sort of a dark teal and the bathroom a yellow. What's amazing about this is how much research I've put into finish.

Everyone, it seems, has a different opinion of what should go where. I usually go for a satin or a semi-gloss because both are easy to clean but I have to paint the ceiling in the bathroom because of mildew issues. I don't want it to be too shiny up there. I also had to make a decision of color. I think I'm going to paint the ceiling in the bathroom the same color as the walls and see how I like that. I'm nervous that it might be too much but what the hay, right? It's just paint. My cousin said satin would be fine up there and she's painted more rooms than I have so I think I will go with that. I'm excited to finally have my bedroom and bath have some color and look pretty. I've already starting priming the bathroom with a mold and mildew resistant priming and I'm looking forward to getting the paint on the walls.

If I won the lottery...

If I won the lottery I'd pay off my house and get us both new cars.  I'd pay off all our debts and get us to the point where we didn't have anything to worry about, just in case.  I'd make sure our parents were set up and that our brothers and sisters were good too.  I'd donate a portion to 2 charities, one for animals and one for children though I don't know which ones.  I don't think I would get too crazy though a new wardrobe for both me and my husband would be in order.  And we'd probably get a bigger house and Bub would go to a really great school.  But I wouldn't want to get too crazy because you never know and I'm all about being cautious with money especially right now.  This might be a boring answer to a fantasy question, but I am more practical than anything.

Resolutions

I realized that I didn't make any resolutions.  Last year I resolved to lose weight which I did though I didn't start trying in earnest until the middle of the year.  But still I did alright.  This year I resolve to continue with my fitness routine and to continue to lose weight.  I know how much I need to lose and it is possible to do it by the end of 2011, but I don't know if I really want to do that, especially if we decide to have another baby this year.  I'm just going to continue what I was doing and make a few improvements here and there.

The other thing I resolve to do is to have more patience in life and with my child.  Because this stage of his life is driving me crazy and I need to learn to breath and not yell so much.

So that's it.  Very attainable goals = happy me.

I want...

Sometimes when I am bored or out of sorts, I play a game in my head I call "I want."  I start with something simple.  "I want a coke" and build from there.  Often I find that I can get to the root of my problem. That what I really want will pop up in the middle of the game.  I guess it is like a stream of consciousness type thing.  Where I can't or don't want to admit or don't even really know what is bothering me.  It can sound like an entirely selfish game.  I want, I want, I want.  Sometimes I just want things I don't need or can't have.  I think everyone is like that.  Even completely unselfish people want things for themselves.

New hair

I got my first highlights when I was 19 and I have been highlighting/dyeing my hair ever since.  I usually just put in blond and/or red highlights into my naturally medium brown hair to give it a little lift, but around April or May I dyed it dark red.  I liked it well enough, but recently decided I wanted to do something different.  I've never gone darker only lighter and usually with highlights.  Also I've done home coloring, only gone to a salon.  Well, last night my aunt dyed my hair dark, dark brown out of a box.  I used Revlon Colorsilk Dark Brown.  I liked it.  It smelled nice and it came out great.  It is really dark and will take some getting use to, but I think I'm going to like it.  It will be good for the fall and winter.

Lost my rings

I put my wedding rings in my pocket like I always do.  I took them out of my jewelry box and stuck them in my pocket because I have to put lotion on Bub in the morning and it makes the rings all yucky if I have them on.  I always stick them in my pocket.  And now I cannot find them and I was late for work because I searched up and down and all around for those freaking rings.  They have to be somewhere right.  Right?  Because jewelry doesn't just up and walk away.  I have to find them.  I cannot have lost them.

ETA: I found my rings in my closet.  I forgot I changed jeans and there had fallen out of the other pairs' pocket and on the closet floor.  Phew.  I feel both dumb and relieved.

Roku

Another one of my Christmas presents (this one from my mom) was a Roku.  It's a small box that will stream Netflix movies onto your TV.  And it is the neatest thing.  We are building up our instant watching queue from Netflix and we can watch all kinds of things on it.  I have a couple of seasons of Dora saved for the little man and BT added some movies he likes and I have some shows that I like.  Not everything is available for instant streaming which sucks but then I don't really expect everything to be available.  This is the one present that I got that I think everyone in the family likes the most.

Nook

Well, I got a Barnes and Noble Nook for Christmas this year. And, of course, I personalized it right away. So behold Deep Thought.

It is really cool and I love it.  So far I've only downloaded a couple of free books (A Little Princess, Suite Scarlett to name two) and I added an e-book I had bought a couple of months ago (Cleolinda's M15M Wizards) with no problem.  I'm planning on buying very carefully and starting with the free samples and if I like what I read then I will buy it.  I wish my local library would get Overdrive e-books or something and then I could check out books from them.  But anyway, it works really well, though there is a little lag time in changing pages but nothing that bothers me.  And the battery lasts a long time.

My only real problem came on Christmas day when it fell off the desk it was charging on and the metal part of the power cable broke off from the rest of the cable.  And since it was over Christmas it was impossible to find someone to help me.  So when I finally got to the right department, the guy was like No problem and they had a new USB cable at my house the next day.

But anyway, now it is fine and I like reading on it a lot.  It's not like reading on a computer screen.  It actually looks papery.  So far, it's been a worthy investment.
