Songs about my children

It's a little silly but for each of my pregnancies I've found a song that sort of sums up how I felt about the new baby.  Or at least a few lines in the song do. This morning I was feeling sentimental and I listed to the songs I identifiy with each pregnancy.

For Bub, Michael Bublé was becoming popular and he had "Feeling Good" out. I love jazz standards and I love this song. But it's really the lines
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
that summed it up for me. Because it was a new life for me. A new life growing inside of me and a life that was about to change drastically for the better.


 For Button, it was nothing so classy. It's actually the Wanted's "Glad You Came," specifically the lines
The sun goes down, the stars come out,
And all that counts, is here and now,
My universe, will never be the same, I'm glad you came, came came

I know this song is about a girl and a guy but for some reason those lines really summed up how I felt about having another baby. I was glad she came and my universe would never be the same. It's amazing how such a tiny person can change everything. But she did and she does and I am ever so happy about that.



I wonder if anyone else does/did this or if it's just me. 

2cellos

The other day at Barnes and Noble I was checking out the children's toys  and found myself singing "Annie, are you okay?" along to cello music.  Huh?  It turns out there is a cello duo, 2cellos, that plays pop music and they are pretty awesome (and pretty hot).  I downloaded the CD when I got home and have been listening to it all day.  I love their "Smooth Criminal" and "Use Somebody" along with most of the CD.  Check it out:

Favorite songs right now

My taste is music leads toward dance music with catchy lyrics.  So don't expect this list to be anywhere near urbane or cutting edge.  I have terrible taste in music.  I just like to dance and so my music often reflects that. Don't judge me.

Children's music

s it weird that I sometimes listen to children's music without my child?  Because if it is, then I totally don't do that.  But seriously.  I like Laurie Berkner especially "Five Days Old," "Mr. Bassman," and "Family," which always chokes me up a little..  Very cool songs that are fun to listen to, even at my advanced age of 32.  I like the Imagination Moves though less so on CD than on TV.  And there is an album called Baby Loves Jazz that does amazing and funky things with some old favorites.  I never thought I'd voluntarily listen to preschool music, but there are some really good things out now instead of the super squeaky crap that is on TV a lot of times.  And Kids Bop or whatever.  I promise you that I'm never going to buy anything where children sing popular songs, not even if it is all cleaned up.  Because I just cannot take that. 

Oh, man I need a drink

I feel like I've been neglecting this blog, especially after BEDA and posting everyday. We have been so busy lately, but for some reason I haven't blogged about it.

Last weekend was crazy. Long ago I told BT that if The Veronicas came to our area then I wanted to go. Well, then I found out they were coming to The House of Blues in New Orleans and I checked the calendar and my friend's wedding wasn't till the next day so I bought some tickets and got a hotel room and all was great though BT said the only way he'd go is if we went down Bourbon Street afterward since we didn't get to go for our anniversary.) Then the wedding invitation came and the wedding was at 2 in the afternoon which, frankly, is a ridiculous time for a wedding and it's too hot anyway. But, whatever, we can make this work. Then my mom decided she wanted to go visit my sister so she wouldn't be around to care for Bubs. So we called BT's little sister to come and she did and I was thankful.

So after work on Friday I go home (didn't get to see my baby since he was napping) and we left for New Orleans. I forgot the tickets at home so we had to stop at the public library and print out new tickets. Thank God for printable tickets and the public library!

We check into the hotel and they have us in a room on the Bourbon Street side, but I didn't think it would be too bad (ha!). Then we walked to the HoB. We knew it was an all ages show but I didn't really think that we'd been the oldest people in line except for the parents taking their teenage child to a concert. *sigh* And since it was all ages no alcohol was served and BT was not happy since it was one of the reason he agreed to go. Oops! The first band was Carney (video not from our show but in Baton Rouge) and we did not like them. I liked one of their songs, but I couldn't tell which one. Also they didn't play the single they were releasing soon or any of the songs on their album, which was stupid. The second band was called The Pretty Reckless and I didn't know it was Taylor Momsen's band (from Gossip Girl) till she walked out and all the little girls started screaming and I was like hey she lookes like Little Jenny and then I wiki'd her and she was and that was cool. She was wearing a slip dress that had lace on her lower abdomen and you could see her black thong underneath and BT was staring at her. So I leaned over and said she's only 16 and he jumped and was like really. LOL So they were really good and their drummer was much better than Carney's. I would buy one of their CDs. She's a pretty good singer and there were only a couple of mishaps.

Then the Veronicas came out and they were awesome and their drummer is freaking awesome and we had a good time. None of those kids really danced or anything which I found strange. Like they were all too afraid of looking stupid or something. Anyway, I love The Veronicas and BT likes them too now and I'm glad we went.

Then we went and ate at Acme Oyster House and it was too loud in there so we texted each other across the table. Then we went down Bourbon and got a Hand Grenande then BT knocked mine out of my hand by accident and I was sad, but we got some dairquis and they were awful. So we were tired and went back to the hotel. BT went and got us some food but I fell asleep and he woke me up and I ate a 2 burgers (Krystal!) and fell back asleep. It was a good time.

I'll tell you about the wedding some other time.

Pass a good time

Yesterday, we went to one of the major festivals here in Louisiana, Festival International. It's one of the biggest festivals and features musicians from around the world. It was the first time we had gone together. After the boy woke up from his afternoon nap, we gathered our stuff and drove down there. Parking was tough but we found a spot in a ditch. We saw three bands. The Quebe Sisters Band are from Texas and they have an old-fashioned sound that I like, sort of like the Andrews Sisters. Bub had to be at the front so he ran up there and we danced some. Then we saw Dengue Fever, a band from Cambodia, which had a surfer rock sound. And the last band, which we caught the tail end of was The Amazing Nuns, from Lafayette, LA, who were a little Blues Brothers. We got to play in the foundation and eat some great food. We passed a good time, cher.

Musical stylings of...

I have been meaning to say this for a while, but I listen to some non-popular pop music. I am one of those people that listens to radio music. When I was younger I listened to less mainstream music and watched edgy shows but life is way to complicated and confusing without my entertainment contributing too.
That being said, I recently downloaded the New Kids on the Block album "The Block." I have to say that I like it. However, it's like they are trying to hard to be cool and young. Here's a hint: you are not, you are like 40. I was expecting some mature songs about having children and being married, but mostly the songs are about sex and sexing some young thing, etc. Honestly, the most ridiculous song I've ever heard is "Full Service," "I'll pump you up (up)" Really!? But I do like "Big Girl Now" and "Grown Man." They are super fun and totally good for a quick burst of disco inferno dancing.. The rest of the fast songs are alright, the slower ones, eh.
As for "Grown Man" I honestly thought they were saying "I'ma gonna give you some room" to, like, dance, you know. But alas, no, here is what they are actually saying:

which changes things considerable. I really should look at song titles before I make such erroneous errors.

The other artist I download a couple of weeks ago was Demi Lovato. I'm not really sure why cause she bothered me on Camp Rock and, in her video for "Back with You" but she seems nice so I really want to like her. It's not bad. I'm not one for slow songs so I tend to skip those. I like "Back to You" and "La La Land" which sounds like a Jonas Bros. song "Video Girl" on the opening. I keep waiting for a girl to say "OMG, I'm dating a Jonas Brother." None of the songs really stand out to me and make me want to put them on repeat. She also sings really hard like she's vomiting up her words. Her voice isn't bad or anything, but it's like she tries too hard. Now that I'm thinking about it, I actually don't like to watch her sing. It disturbs me. Some people have this feeling about Jessica Simpson. Demi is my Jessica. Maybe because she is totally in real-life hard core (she says) and she has to sing (OMG) Disney and she is offending her punk sensibilities and it really is like vomiting for her. Who knows.
